I give 2 lectures and a practical class in the BIM Manager online course from PSS focusing on vendor-neutral collaboration and open data formats and open standards. The module where I give classes covers model exchange and validation, information enrichment for handover, and explains layers of interoperability.
Role:Guest lecturer
Task(s): Classes on interoperability, open data formats and information exchange
Year: 2023-current
As an invited lecturer, I focus on interoperability. I explain the challenge through four layers—legal, organizational, semantic, and technical—and cover openBIM practices and buildingSMART developments: Industry Foundation Classes (IFC), the buildingSMART Data Dictionary (bsDD), Information Delivery Specification (IDS), the BIM Collaboration Format (BCF), and Model View Definitions (MVD).
Students learn practical workflows—model auditing, property enrichment, Revit-to-IFC export, data mapping, and validation, including the use of open and web-based tools—so information moves reliably between software and stakeholders. We also explore how these methods support model-based expert reviews and emerging digital building-permit processes across Europe and beyond. I am grateful for the trust of the host organization and for our collaborative work in openly sharing knowledge.
